Bob Calle, founder and first director of the Carré d'Art in Nîmes Jean Bousquet (1988-1993), was a passionate artist books, that is to say original works designed for the book medium. 

The artist book arousing growing interest among artists and collectors, deserved to be known to a wider audience.

Bob Calle Association for the artist's book aims to contribute to the recognition of the artist's book in its artistic specificity and its international influence by awarding an annual prize. Around the prices it intends to organize various support and outreach activities to promote meetings between artists, publishers, gallery owners, publishers, curators, collectors and enthusiasts. For this first year the books were selected by experts whose competence is internationally recognized and which were selected in 8 European countries on a proposed Moeglin Anne-Delcroix.

The prize was awarded by a selection committee and a panel of actors recognized for their contribution to the artist's book and his knowledge. The award ceremony took place October 16, 2017, in the amphitheater of Honor of the Beaux-Arts de Paris.

An exhibition of the winning artists and all the books offered by the experts was presented in the Chapel.

The Association Bob Calle for Artist's book (1) founded in tribute to the memory of Bob Calle, aims to promote the artists’ Book as a specific form of artistic expression and to contribute to its international influence through the award of an annual prize. To give context to the prize, the association also proposes to organize supporting and dissemination activities which will bring together artists, publishers, gallerists, booksellers, curators, collectors and art lovers.

The award received the support from Bob Calle’s friends : Jean Michel Alberola, Jean Charles Blais, Miguel Barceló, Christian Boltanski, Sophie Calle, Séréna Carone, Johan Creten, Régis Franc, Bertrand Lavier, Annette Messager, Jean Michel Othoniel, Anne Marie Schneider. They have agreed to enrich by a work of art, the libertine tale of Vivant Denon, Point de Lendemain, edited by Éditions 591-Laurence Dumaine Calle, limited edition. The benefits of this bibliophily book will contribute to the prize’ funding.
